Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2026

LiteTranscript is built privacy-first. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and the rights you have under GDPR and similar laws.

Plain-English summary: We don’t require an account. We never sell your data. We process video audio briefly to generate your transcript, then discard it. We store transcripts so you can share them via link, and you can request deletion any time.

1. Information we collect

We minimise what we collect. The categories below are the only things ever stored or processed by LiteTranscript:

 • Video URL you submit — used solely to download the audio for transcription.
 • Resulting transcript & metadata — text, timestamps, detected language, summary, and a unique share slug.
 • Standard server logs — IP address, timestamp, user agent. Used only to enforce rate limits and detect abuse. Retained ≤ 30 days.
 • Cookie consent choice — stored locally in your browser (not on our servers).

We do not collect: your name, email, phone, payment info, location beyond IP, contacts, or device identifiers.

2. How we use it

 • To provide the service — transcribe, translate, summarise and serve your transcript.
 • To enable sharing — generate a unique URL slug so you (or your friends) can access the transcript later.
 • To prevent abuse — rate-limit excessive requests from a single IP.
 • To display ads — third-party ad partners (e.g. Google AdSense) may receive cookie data per their own privacy policies.

We never use your data for profiling, behavioural advertising on our own, or selling to data brokers.

3. Cookies & tracking

LiteTranscript uses two types of cookies:

 • Essential — your theme preference (dark/light) and consent choice. Stored only in your browser’s localStorage.
 • Advertising — Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to deliver and measure ads. You’ll see a consent banner on first visit.

You can clear cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will reset your theme and consent choice but will not affect transcripts you’ve already created.

4. Third-party services

The following providers process data on our behalf (each is GDPR-compliant):

 • Groq — runs OpenAI’s Whisper model for transcription and Llama for translation. Audio is processed in-memory and not retained by Groq.
 • MongoDB Atlas / self-hosted MongoDB — stores transcripts and share links.
 • Google AdSense — displays advertisements. AdSense uses cookies to serve relevant ads. See Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

5. Data retention

 • Transcripts: retained until you request deletion.
 • Server logs: ≤ 30 days, then automatically purged.
 • Audio files: deleted immediately after transcription completes (typically within seconds).

6. Your rights under GDPR / CCPA

Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:

 • Access the transcripts associated with a share link you control.
 • Delete any transcript by emailing us with the share URL.
 • Object to processing — simply stop using the service.
 • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children’s privacy

LiteTranscript is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
